  • Adel is currently a doctoral student in Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno. She is a behavioral consultant for the Nevada Center for Severe Behavior Problems and her research interests include: child pathology, feeding disorders, instructional methodology, and functional analysis of technology. The following is an abstract of the research study submitted for the award.

    Parental Assessment and Treatment of Food Selectivity in Natural Settings
    Differential reinforcement of alternative behavior (DRA) plus escape extinction (EXT) is commonly used to treat food selectivity presumably maintained by negative reinforcement in the form of escape from food acceptance. This study evaluated effects of a parent conducted functional analysis and treatment of food selectivity using DRA with and without EXT. Results demonstrated substantial increases in food acceptance at home and in a restaurant setting when DRA in combination with EXT was used.
